Pocket Hämeenlinna is a mobile app designed to quickly and easily provide you with information about current events and news in the city. The app also works as a library e-card and has quick links to bus timetables and selected city services. Thanks to this handy app, the City of Hämeenlinna and its services are literally in your pocket 24/7.

Library e-card
The first version of the app includes features such as a library e-card, events calendar, access to e-health services, childcare services, bus timetables, and city news.
Pocket Hämeenlinna´s most popular feature is the library e-card, which enables you to borrow books using the app. After your user credentials have been authenticated, the library e-card will appear on your device’s screen and can then be conveniently accessed directly in the app itself. Each of Hämeenlinna’s libraries has a self-service machine that can be used to borrow books. These machines are also compatible with the app’s library e-card.
Pocket Hämeenlinna´s e-library card feature can also be used to access the customer services provided by all Hämeenlinna libraries and mobile libraries.
Background information
Assisted by the Ministry of Finance, the City of Hämeenlinna is participating in the City in My Pocket project, which aims to create mobile apps for all municipalities and cities in Finland.
The Pocket Hämeenlinna app is being developed in cooperation with the City of Salo and is being produced by Häme University of Applied Sciences. As part of the project, the Pocket Hämeenlinna app was updated during spring 2021, with the new version including redesigned technology to make it compatible with a wider range of devices and operating systems, as well as new features and functions.
In updating the app, there was a strong desire to listen to the user experience feedback of both existing and potential users of the service. The users’ thoughts and opinions on useful and value-added features and functionalities for the app were surveyed in spring 2020 through a student thesis and market research.
In the future, users will also be able to submit in-app bug reports and participate in quick prize draws and surveys. In terms of additional content, the updated app will include information on local nature trails and destinations, outdoor recreation areas, cultural sites, and other regional attractions.
The City of Hämeenlinna’s involvement in the app project is coordinated by the City’s Communications Unit and ICT support is provided by the City’s Information Management Unit.
