Lights of Barn

Barn Dinner in Iloranta

The oldest buildings in the Iloranta yard date back to times when the Rukkoila village lived off fishing and crabbing. The old blackened logs have been watching the life of the families for over two hundred years. They are filled with Häme hospitality and if you really listen carefully you can still hear whispers from the olden times.
The "golden years" of the drying and threshing barn date back to over a century ago. This was the time when the stoves in the barn were used daily all autumn long to dry the harvest. With the aid of the "barn elf" watch was kept over the fires all night.
Bygones may be bygones but the atmosphere of the old drying and threshing barn is still there - almost within reach.

The host and hostess greet you in the yard. For starters you will join in the baking of bread on stones like in the old Iron Age. Enlightened by this experience you then enter the barn and fall back into the ancient times. The staff is wearing outfits fitting to the theme. The luring aromas of the food invite the guests to step under the high ridgepole where they are seated at long tables to which the starter soup is served.

The soft lights of the lanterns on the walls and the high chandaliers on the tables create an unique atmosphere. An unforgettable cuisine enjoyment is ready to begin!
