Palander House
Not far from the other two locations of Hämeenlinna City Museum, Birthplace of Sibelius and Museum Skogster, stands the Palander House museum. It is located in the heart of Hämeenlinna city centre in the block of period houses from the 19th century. Palander House itself has also been built in 1861. It has served many purposes as a family home and later on even as a local military headquarters. In 1990s it was turned into a museum and its appearance was returned into that of 1890s-1920s.
Palander house is a lifestyle museum and it represents life of a bourgeois Hämeenlinna family some 100 years ago. The museum ensembles a variety of rooms and their purposes ranging from the elegant drawing room to the servant’s kitchen.
You get to experience the house with either the matron, daughter or a maid of the house. Guided tours begin every half hours. Last tour begins at 3.30 pm.
