Construction of the Tyry mountain biking trail network to begin in October
The Tyry mountain biking trail network, the winning proposal of Hämeenlinna’s participatory budgeting, is moving from the planning stage to construction in October 2026. The new trail network aims to provide mountain bikers with a safe, durable, and versatile environment for their hobby. The trail network will be completed by the end of December 2026.
The City of Hämeenlinna is building a new mountain biking trail network in the Tyry area, based on the winning proposal from participatory budgeting. The trails are designed especially for riders using full-size mountain bikes, with the aim of offering cyclists an enjoyable and safe place to pursue the sport.
The project includes two downhill mountain biking trails, an uphill route based on a service road, and a parking area. The first trail is suitable for beginners. Its features are gentle and easy to ride. The second trail is designed for more experienced riders. It includes more demanding features that also allow for jumps.
The trails will be built on a former soil deposit area, making use of the soil materials already present on site. Special attention will be paid to the durability and safety of the trails during construction. Surface water will be directed in a way that prevents it from eroding the trails. The trail surfaces will be sealed with a wear-resistant top layer, and the surrounding areas will be landscaped once construction is complete.
Other measures related to the closure plan attached to the area’s environmental permit may also be carried out in connection with the construction work. The aim is to reduce the need for later changes and to support the long-term use of the trail network.
Access to the area may be restricted during construction for safety reasons. The city will provide information on any access restrictions as the work progresses.

A gravel parking area will be built along Auringonlähde road in connection with the trail network. The parking area will accommodate a few cars, but individual parking spaces will not be marked, and the area will not be maintained during winter.
The amendment to the area’s environmental permit is available for viewing in the city’s electronic case management system until 2 November 2026.
