Hobbies and well-being for the 2026–2027 academic year
Hämeenlinna offers a wide range of free hobby and physical activity opportunities for children and young people as the academic year begins.
HIL hobbies, the expanded Liikuntalukkari, school PT activities, and the Nuorisopassi support active leisure time and hobbies in connection with the school day.
HIL hobbies start in September
The Finnish Model for Hobbies is implemented in Hämeenlinna as HIL hobbies, which allow children and young people to participate in activities in connection with the school day. Hobbies are organized before or after school on school premises or nearby. Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes, and the activities are free of charge for participants.
A wide range of activities is available in the fields of culture and sports, such as various ball games, game design and coding, parkour, gym, cooking, and different forms of art. HIL hobbies start in September during weeks 36–37.
Registration for groups began on Monday, 17 August. The selection of HIL hobbies will continue to be updated throughout August and September. Explore the HIL hobbies and register for the groups.
Liikuntalukkari also offers many different free physical activity groups. Liikuntalukkari has now expanded and is open to all primary and lower secondary school pupils in grades 1–9.
School PT activities for lower secondary school students
School PT is a free, low-threshold physical activity counseling service provided by the City of Hämeenlinna for lower secondary school students. Through this activity, young people can explore local exercise opportunities with an instructor, participate in small-group or individual school PT sessions, and receive encouragement for independent physical activity. Additionally, the school PT helps increase physical activity during breaks and lessons.
Young people, guardians, teachers, or school healthcare representatives can contact School PT Noora Jakobsson or register via the link below.
Remember the Nuorisopassi
Nuorisopassi is a mobile application for pupils in grades 5–9 in Hämeenlinna schools, encouraging local youth to enjoy an active leisure time. The app provides information on local hobby groups and offers various benefits or discounts. It can also be used to communicate about local events and hobbies. The app is free for users and can be downloaded from app stores.
