Lammi Comprehensive School’s new building completed and opened its doors to pupils

Lammi Comprehensive School’s new building and its renovated yard area were taken into use on 12 August as the school year began. The comprehensive school, formed by Hakkala School and the newly completed extension built alongside it, serves approximately 550 pupils in basic education and upper secondary school.

The new two-storey school building completed on the grounds of Hakkala School in Lammi, at Lamminraitti 35, together with the Hakkala building forms a unified school centre. The facilities have been designed to support the learning, growth, and wellbeing of pupils of different ages. The school centre serves grades 1–9 as well as upper secondary education, with a total of approximately 550 pupils studying there.

The project involved the construction of approximately 4,000 square metres of gross floor area of new school facilities. The project’s target budget was €15 million. The City of Hämeenlinna’s premises services construction unit was responsible for commissioning the project, while Rakennusliike Lapti Oy carried out the project as a design-and-build contract.

Lammi Comprehensive School’s new facilities are a good example of how modern school construction can combine functional and adaptable spaces, good indoor air quality, and energy-efficient solutions. The building clearly achieves energy class A with an E-value of 54, and renewable energy solutions are concretely reflected in, for example, an extensive solar panel system and the use of ground source heat. The new facilities have been built in accordance with the four-star environmental classification of Rakennustieto.

An extensive yard area was also completed alongside the school centre, serving pupils during the school day and residents of the entire surrounding area during their free time. The yard functions as a local sports facility, offering diverse opportunities for exercise and spending time together.

According to the principal of Lammi Comprehensive School, the available budget made it possible to implement all the space the school needed and its key functions.

We managed to fit all the necessary square metres and functions within the available budget. On the whole, both the building and the yard have proven to work very well for the needs of both the comprehensive school and the upper secondary school.
