Linnanpuisto’s robotic lawn mowers have been named
The names of Linnanpuisto’s three robotic lawn mowers have been chosen through a public vote. The winning trio of names — Birger Yard, Silppulius, and Irwin Greenman — cleverly combines Hämeenlinna’s history, humour, and a lawn-mowing theme.
This summer, the City of Hämeenlinna invited residents to suggest names for Linnanpuisto’s three robotic lawn mowers. The response was substantial, with nearly 600 name suggestions received. A panel made up of supervisors and trainees from the green space maintenance team selected six finalists from the submissions for the public vote.
The public vote was won by the trio of names Birger Yard, Silppulius, and Irwin Greenman. According to the panel, this combination cleverly and amusingly brings together history, humour, and lawn mowing.
The person who suggested the winning names was awarded a Hämeenlinna hoodie. The winner has been contacted by email.
The judging panel is delighted by residents’ active participation. Among the name suggestions were many high-quality and inventive options, which made choosing six finalists a challenging task. The panel thanks everyone who submitted name suggestions and took part in the vote.
During the summer, three robotic lawn mowers work in Linnanpuisto to keep the park’s lawns tidy. As this year’s mowing season has already ended, the winning names will appear on nameplates attached to the mowers starting next spring.
