Smart Work 2025: Occupational Safety Information Session

The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by the employees of the City of Hämeenlinna.

Occupational Safety Representatives have planned and organized occupational safety information sessions for the city’s staff. These sessions, open to all city employees, cover occupational safety and well-being matters that concern us all – our rights and responsibilities. The occupational safety information sessions support several of the city’s strategic goals. Promoting staff well-being, work ability, and occupational safety is one essential foundation for implementing the strategy successfully. The sessions increase employees’ awareness of occupational safety, health and safety, and well-being practices.

This practical approach to occupational safety and well-being issues encourages related discussion and practices in the workplace, thereby also promoting direct occupational safety cooperation at the workplace level. The approach can also be used by the city’s top management to connect with staff – not face to face, but in a way that gives everyone the chance for a low-threshold encounter.

A community-oriented city of well-being: When the city invests in staff well-being and occupational safety, this is reflected in better services for residents. A culture of joy at work: The occupational safety information sessions strengthen a culture of joy at work and its values.

Similar sessions can be held, for example, by sector, business unit, or work unit. Other cities and organizations can implement the same approach.

Between September and December 2024, five occupational safety information sessions were held via Teams, with employees from all sectors participating. The practice of holding these sessions will continue, and five sessions are planned for spring 2025. Topic selection will take current issues and received suggestions into account. The goal of the sessions has been to increase awareness of occupational safety and well-being among both staff and supervisors, and we believe we have succeeded in this goal.
