Smart Work 2025: Utilizing geospatial data in the waste management authority’s sludge transport monitoring
The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by the employees of the City of Hämeenlinna.
Despite requests, the waste management authority has not received background material from all thirteen municipalities in its operating area for carrying out sludge transport monitoring. As a result, it has not been possible to carry out the monitoring required by law in all municipalities within the operating area.
With the QGis program, the waste management authority can produce the material itself and carry out the monitoring task. Sludge transport monitoring will play a significant role in the decision on the sludge transport system to be made in the coming years.
I have created a process description that makes it possible to produce the material needed for the waste management authority’s work in carrying out sludge transport monitoring.
With the process and instructions I have created, it is possible to acquire the material for all municipalities in the operating area, enabling the waste management authority to carry out the sludge transport monitoring required by law.
I have now produced the material for one municipality, but the work will continue with creating material for the other municipalities. The material produced will be entered into the waste management authority’s register as background material.
