Award-winning! Smart Work 2026: Warpu – a tool for coordinating volunteer activities

The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by the employees of the City of Hämeenlinna.

The system previously used at Volunteer Centre Pysäkki was no longer functional; it was cumbersome and in need of an update. A system was required that would better serve as both a volunteer register and a daily tool for employees.

A search was launched for a new system and service provider. Elements from the old system were used as a foundation for the new one, which was then developed and supplemented in collaboration with the service provider to meet operational needs. A functional and secure system enables smooth workflows, resulting in better coordination of volunteer tasks and supporting consistent teamwork.

This development process resulted in Warpu, which has streamlined and unified the team’s work processes. Managing tasks is easier, and information is more accessible to all employees. Among other benefits, this has reduced the vulnerability of work tasks and improved the quality of operations.

The system has introduced additional features to facilitate communication and outreach to volunteers involved in various tasks. The current system generates more necessary statistical data and provides alerts related to data processing. The Warpu system will continue to be developed as needed.
