Smart Work 2027: A Common Language: Phrase bank for waste management regulations

The idea for the waste management regulation phrase bank originated from the “Joy of Work with a Developer Mindset” training organized by the City of Hämeenlinna. The goal was to streamline work and make waste management regulations and their obligations more customer-oriented with stakeholders in mind. The waste management regulations were updated in the spring, so the timing for modifying the website and creating the phrase bank was ideal.
Waste management authority services and the waste company Kiertokapula Oy often receive questions from residents regarding the same issues, the answers to which can be found in the waste management regulations.
The text of the waste management regulations is not easily understandable, and its content has previously only been available in a PDF file embedded on the website. A set of questions has now been prepared for the site, with answers that are clear and free of unnecessary jargon. This makes it easier for residents to find information about their obligations. Artificial intelligence was utilized during the development process.
The result of this development is a phrase bank on the waste management authority’s website, kolmenkierto.fi, which can be used as is for customer inquiries and for guidance provided in connection with official decisions. The phrase bank is lightweight and easy to update. In addition, accessibility has improved.
Thanks to the ready-made phrases, work becomes more efficient, increasing well-being at work as time no longer needs to be spent reinventing the wheel. This leaves more time for more enjoyable tasks.
The same model is being expanded to other sections of the website, and with the website renewal of separate sites taking place in 2027, the texts developed now can be laid out even better. Furthermore, the phrase bank will be supplemented based on the feedback collected.
