Smart Work 2027: Many Forms of Civic Orientation
The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by the employees of the City of Hämeenlinna.
As of the beginning of 2025, providing civic orientation for immigrants became a statutory obligation for municipalities. In Hämeenlinna, International Resident Services provide civic orientation in several different languages.
In late 2025, education providers at the HAMK Evo campus contacted International Resident Services to ask if international students could be offered information sessions to prevent various challenges when settling in Finland.
International Resident Services developed a civic orientation program aimed at students, with the first pilot carried out in early 2026. Students and teachers have praised the program and found it useful, and the cooperation continues.
The development of civic orientation continues. Following a request from the social services of the Well-being services county of Kanta-Häme, a dedicated civic orientation focusing on the youth perspective will be implemented in autumn 2026 for young people who arrived in the country as unaccompanied minors.
