Smart Work 2027: Teaching Assistants’ Summer Job Exchange
The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by employees of the City of Hämeenlinna.
For a long time, early education and basic education have worked together to employ permanent teaching assistants at early education centres during the schools’ summer break. This has required significant effort and time from the administration of both early education and basic education.
We wanted to find a smoother solution for arranging substitutes. We suggested to IT Management that they introduce an application that would work like the apps used for offering gig work.
IT Management built a Teams-based tool, the Summer Job Exchange. Heads of Early Education Centres could post their need for substitutes over the summer, and teaching assistants could reserve a suitable placement for themselves.
The Summer Job Exchange made offering and accepting summer jobs smoother. At the same time, it reduced the administration’s workload by eliminating unnecessary intermediate steps. The Summer Job Exchange is being further developed so that it can be used in the future, for example, in organising job rotation for teachers.
