Smart Work 2027: The Museum DOES NOT Offer

The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by the City of Hämeenlinna’s employees.

The drunken Hämeenlinna guided tour itself already existed, but I spontaneously added a summery terrace moment to it. The idea came to life inspired by rain showers and the can-drinkers in the church park.

Right after the first walking tour, once all the frustrations had materialized, I marched back to the local terrace and arranged seating under cover from the rain for the next group to be guided.
The late-summer tours went smoothly after that, as the extra stop added reliability to the success of the tours during a rainy summer. Customers also got a brief moment to sit down and, if they wished, treat themselves to a coffee or, fittingly for the theme, a hot toddy.

For those who took part in the tours, this seemed to be a fun, fresh addition. The stories about drinking culture gained more substance, customer safety improved, and the local restaurateur seemed pleased.

I talked with the restaurateur about the feedback I’d received, and since he had taken part in the tour himself, he was very open to similar collaboration. We discussed the customer feedback we’d gathered, and the idea of a similar tour began to take shape—one that would also include other historical “vices” besides alcohol. Perhaps cigarette factories, nightlife in general, and so on.
