Smart Work 2027: Tuntu – Emotional Education Through Exhibition

The Smart Work page presents everyday innovations and success stories developed by the employees of the City of Hämeenlinna.

The Tuntu exhibition originated from the planning of the 2026 Hippalot festival. Emotions were chosen as the theme, as emotional skills were seen as a vital future skill and a counterpoint to passive media consumption. The ARX working group wanted to find a way for children to process the theme in a natural way: by feeling, experimenting, playing, and wondering together. This led to the idea of an exhibition that combines emotional education, art, and multi-sensory experiences.

The ARX exhibition team designed and implemented the Tuntu exhibition, where emotional education is approached through art in a physical and experiential way. Visitors are encouraged to touch, feel, try, and explore the works. The entire spectrum of emotions is included, including negative ones. The goal is to strengthen the understanding that all emotions are part of being human, and that identifying, naming, and processing them can be practiced safely. Emotional skills are the key to interaction between people.

After Hippalot, the Tuntu exhibition continued as part of the ARX Cultural Path. All pre-primary education groups in Hämeenlinna have visited the exhibition, as have other groups of children and the general public. The pre-primary pupils received an “Emotion Measuring Worm,” which has been used to continue identifying, naming, and discussing emotions in day-care centres. The same content has thus served both the festival audience and the Cultural Path.

The Tuntu exhibition is being developed into a package that can be rented to other children’s cultural centres. The model based on the theme of the year will be utilised in the future, meaning that the design of one entity serves several functions and audiences at ARX. The theme of the upcoming Hippalot festival (dreams and aspirations) will also be utilised both in the exhibition and in the development of other ARX activities. In this way, the team’s artistic, pedagogical, and production expertise are combined in a resource-wise way that serves the audience.
