Overview

The Ahvenisto Nature Trail takes you through the varied ridge landscapes of the Ahvenisto Recreation Area and Nature Reserve, located on the western side of the city. The trail offers a wonderful combination of peaceful nature, changing scenery and a moderate physical challenge. The approximately 6-kilometre circular route winds over and between the ridges. Along the way, you can enjoy views of the surrounding forests and Lake Ahvenistonjärvi. The varied terrain makes every step a little different. Some sections feature steep climbs that add a challenge to your hike but reward you with beautiful views.

The nature trail is suitable for both leisurely walks and more demanding exercise. If you prefer a shorter route, you can walk around Lake Ahvenistonjärvi instead. This option is ideal for lighter exercise or a family excursion. Trail conditions vary with the seasons. In spring and autumn, some sections can be wet, so wearing rubber boots are recommended. Parts of the trail may also remain wet after raining in the summer. Boardwalks have been built in the most difficult sections of the trail to make walking easier and protect the sensitive terrain. The Ahvenisto area also offers excellent facilities for taking a break during your outing. The sports centre near the trailhead has a range of services, making it easy to extend your visit. You can combine your walk with a refreshing swim, a picnic at a campfire site or a coffee break. The Ahvenisto Nature Trail is easily accessible and offers memorable experiences throughout the year. It is an ideal destination when you want to take a break from everyday life, breathe in the fresh air of the ridge forest and enjoy nature close to the city.
