Work and entrepreneurship

Website for international residents

Moving to Finland opens up new opportunities for professional life, studies, and entrepreneurship.

Work

When you move to Finland, you may apply for the services of your local employment area, which help you with integration, education, and finding employment. In Hämeenlinna, these services are organized by the TyöHäme Employment Area.

For whom?

In order to register as a jobseeker, you must have the right to work in Finland. To have the right to work, a valid residence permit or citizenship of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland is required.

Where?

Register as a jobseeker at a TyöHäme Employment Area service point. When you register as a jobseeker, you begin your job search and your status as a client of the employment services.

What is done?

A personal Employment Agent will be assigned to you, who will initially interview you and assist with matters related to employment and education. The Employment Agent will also determine your eligibility for unemployment benefits and an integration plan or an employment plan. Unemployment benefit is financial support that can be received, for example, from unemployment funds or Kela during a period of unemployment.

The integration plan and employment plan outline the measures, such as integration training or other forms of education, through which you will receive support for your employment.

Where can I find work?

Entrepreneurship

Do you dream of having your own business? In Finland, entrepreneurship is possible in many different ways.

Starting a business in Hämeenlinna

Business Coordinators at the TyöHäme Employment Area provide advice on questions related to entrepreneurship and support the establishment and development of a business.

Notify your TyöHäme Employment Agent when you begin operating as an entrepreneur. The TyöHäme Employment Area will request a clarification regarding the start of business activities. In the clarification, you must state, for example, when the business activity begins and whether you are still seeking full-time work despite being an entrepreneur.

Contact information for other services and actors supporting entrepreneurship has also been compiled on the TyöHäme website.
