Hämeenlinna closing in on its goal of 1,000 places for young people and job seekers
Hämeenlinna is closing in on the target set out in its 2026 budget: to provide, together with its group companies and partners, 1,000 places for young people and job seekers.
The target is made up of places offered each year, consisting of
- 700 summer job vouchers or summer jobs provided by the city and companies operating in the city
- 100 work trial or on-the-job training places
- 200 work experience placements (TET) for school pupils.
The figure for 2026 currently stands at 966. Of these, 643 are summer job vouchers and summer jobs, 126 are work trial or on-the-job training places, and 197 are work experience placements for school pupils.
This is not just about a number. Every place gives a resident of Hämeenlinna the chance to gain experience, strengthen their skills, and find their next steps towards employment. Reaching this target has been possible thanks to the joint efforts of the city, its group companies, and partner organisations.
Mira Sillanpää, Director of Employment Services, City of Hämeenlinna
– Someone starting a work trial or on-the-job training period may have very strong skills that have been built up outside of paid work and therefore may not be visible in their qualifications or employment history. For example, IT skills acquired through hobbies and personal projects can be of a very high standard. A work trial or on-the-job training period can help identify these skills, make them visible, and build a path towards working life, says Olli Lundahl, service advisor at the City of Hämeenlinna’s employment services.
Work continues in 2027
The goal of offering 1,000 places is an annual target that will continue until 2028. Work on the 2027 target will begin again in cooperation with the city’s units, group companies, employers, and other partners.
You can learn about work, study, and entrepreneurship opportunities, for example, at the TEKIJÄ2027 study and recruitment event in January. The event brings together local employers, educational institutions, young people, and job seekers.
One opportunity for young people to gain work experience and earn their own money is the Oma Firma coaching programme run by the Hämeenlinna Region 4H Association. In the programme, participants develop their skills and interests into a business idea, which they can use as a basis for setting up their own 4H enterprise.
