The historic Lyseo takes the next step towards a new life
The renovation of the main building of Hämeenlinna Lyseo Upper Secondary School and the construction of a new sports and dining facility are progressing. The City of Hämeenlinna has made a procurement decision regarding the project management contract, and SRV Rakennus Oy has been selected as the contractor.
The project is being implemented as a project management contract that includes design. This means the contractor joins the project early, well before the actual construction phase, to develop plans together with the city, users, and designers. The goal is to ensure that the solutions are feasible, cost-controlled, and in line with the values of the Lyseo.
The project aims to combine the building’s historical values with healthy and safe learning environments and functional everyday spaces. The renovation addresses demanding issues related to restoration, building services, indoor air quality, accessibility, and building conservation. It is not just about renovating an old building and constructing a new one, but about the functional renewal of the entire Lyseo block.
The project management contractor was selected through a public procurement process open to all interested bidders. The tender emphasized quality in particular, as the site is technically demanding and historically significant. In the comparison of bids, quality was weighted at 70% and price at 30%. All bidders have committed to the target and ceiling prices set by the client. The quality-weighted scoring examined, among other things, the experience of the bidders’ key personnel, the implementation strategy for the development phase, and the project team’s ability to manage design, costs, schedule, and project risks. The quality assessment also included an employment condition to promote job opportunities and social responsibility in the project’s implementation.
Following the signing of the contract, the project’s development phase will begin. During this phase, details such as the functionality of the spaces, renovation methods, technical systems, costs, schedule, risk management, and permit procedures will be specified before moving on to the actual implementation phase.
