Finland’s First Child-Friendly City

The city received UNICEF’s Child-Friendly Municipality recognition in 2013, the first in Finland to do so. We are committed to promoting children’s rights and building everyday life in which children and young people thrive, now and in the future. The Child-Friendly Hämeenlinna programme guides our work towards a safe, inclusive, and good life for every child.

Children’s Rights in Decision-Making

The City of Hämeenlinna promotes the realisation of children’s rights in all its activities. Through child impact assessments, we ensure that decisions take into account the best interests of the child and their effects on children and young people, now and in the future.
