Youth Council

The Youth Council of Hämeenlinna gives young people the opportunity to influence the decisions of the city.

The Hämeenlinna Youth Council, or Nuva, is an inclusive body for young people aged 12–18, and it brings the perspectives and experiences of the youth into the decision-making of the city. The Youth Council is politically independent and acts as an advocate and voice for young people in Hämeenlinna.

The Youth Council has representatives on the City Council and various committees. The City Board appoints the Youth Council, which currently has 25 members.

The Youth Council’s highest decision-making body is the general meeting, which includes all members. The meeting sets the direction of activities and makes the most important decisions. The day-to-day operations and implementation of decisions are the responsibility of the board of the Youth Council.

The board has eight members and a group of chairpersons. The goal is to have representatives from every secondary school and upper secondary institution in Hämeenlinna on the Youth Council.

The Youth Council actively participates in the events of the city. The representatives of the Youth Council can be met, for example, at the Elomessut Fair and the Kohti koulua Fair for 6th graders.

How to join Nuva?

In Hämeenlinna, no elections are held for the Youth Council. All young people aged 12–18 who are interested in the activities may register to participate.

Nuva’s term of office is two years. The current Nuva began its activities in early 2025. The next application period is in autumn 2026. We will announce the exact registration period on this page.

General meeting of Nuva

The general meeting of Nuva is held annually. All young people in Hämeenlinna are welcome to the general meeting. You can participate in the meeting even if you are not a member of Nuva. The meeting addresses current issues and presents Nuva’s activities. The next general meeting will be held in November 2026. The exact date will be announced closer to meeting.
