Elderly Citizens Council

The Elderly Citizens Council brings the perspectives of older residents into the decision-making and service development of Hämeenlinna.

The Elderly Citizens Council is an inclusive body that acts between the City of Hämeenlinna and its residents. The role of the council is to bring the perspectives of elderly residents into the city’s decision-making and to develop services and the living environment taking into account the needs of older people. The Elderly Citizens Council may make initiatives and proposals and issue statements on matters that are significant for the everyday life and well-being of elderly people.

The Elderly Citizens Council is legislated in the Municipalities Act. The city is required to give the Elderly Citizens Council the opportunity to influence the planning, preparation and monitoring of its activities across different sectors. This applies particularly to matters relating to the well-being, health, participation, living environment, housing, mobility, ability to manage daily activities and services of the elderly population.

In Hämeenlinna, the City Board appoints the Elderly Citizens Council.
