Infrastructure construction

Infrastructure construction manifests in the daily lives of residents as functional streets, parks, playgrounds, and municipal technical networks. On new residential and business sites, streets and municipal engineering are constructed in full, whereas renovation projects are utilized to maintain the functionality, safety, and comfort of the city’s infrastructure.

The city’s infrastructure construction involves the implementation of streets, parks, pedestrian and cycle paths, playgrounds, and other public areas. Simultaneously, municipal technical networks, such as water supply, stormwater systems, and other underground infrastructure, are constructed and modernized.

Infrastructure construction projects encompass both new residential and business areas and the renovation of existing districts. In new areas, streets and municipal engineering are fully constructed, while renovation projects are carried out to ensure the city’s infrastructure remains functional, safe, and pleasant.

Annual infrastructure construction projects are confirmed by the Urban Structure Committee at the end of the preceding year. Following this approval, the projects are prepared for implementation.

The majority of infrastructure construction is carried out by contractors. The City is responsible for project commissioning, tendering, supervision, and coordination, while smaller projects, such as the construction and renovation of playgrounds, are primarily performed as in-house work.

The objective of renovation projects is to complete all necessary modernizations simultaneously. When a street or other public area is renovated, the renewal needs of water and sewage networks, as well as other municipal technical networks such as electricity and district heating, are assessed to prevent unnecessary excavation work in the near future and minimize disruption to local residents and operators.

Infrastructure construction is a component of the city’s long-term development. Through this process, the objectives of zoning and planning are transformed into completed streets, parks, and functional networks for the use of residents.
