City Centre Vision 2040

The City Centre Vision is a strategic document that brings together the city’s goals and concrete measures to strengthen the vitality, services, housing, business operations, culture, and events of the city centre. At the same time, the vision supports sustainable mobility and serves as a guideline for zoning, urban planning, and investments.

The goal is an interesting and vibrant city centre. The City Centre Vision implements the city’s strategy and strategic programmes, such as Child-Friendly Hämeenlinna, Carbon Neutral Hämeenlinna, and Hämeenlinna for Tourism and Events.

In line with the city’s objectives, the City Centre Vision promotes the attractiveness of the city centre, its status as a good city for employment, and its development into a significant city for culture and tourism.

As a resource-wise city, the goal is to increase sustainable transport such as walking, cycling, and public transit.

Thriving essential services are the base of the vibrant city and its center. It is challenging to develop vitality without functioning schools, daycare centers, and exercise facilities, library, and cultural services.

The City Centre Vision has been prepared as a strategic guideline and a concrete action plan for the development of the city centre. It will be taken into account in the update of the master plan for the inner city and when preparing zoning, investment, and planning programmes.

The City Centre Vision is a trendsetter for the future and has been prepared to support cooperation and marketing between stakeholders. The City Centre Vision is one of the flagship programmes of the City of Hämeenlinna’s vitality programme.

In the future, the City Centre Vision will be updated every council term.
