Volunteer activities in parks

Would you like to enhance the appeal of your local area and help care for your surroundings? You can organise a community clean-up in your neighbourhood park or become a park pal.

Resident groups, communities or businesses in Hämeenlinna may organize voluntary work events or enter into a park pal agreement with the city, thereby assisting in the maintenance of a park or other green area in their neighborhood.

Individual voluntary work events typically involve cleaning up litter that does not belong in nature, clearing brushwood or weeding invasive species.

The tasks performed in a pal park depend on the nature of the park, as well as the interest and expertise of the participants. Suitable tasks include, for example:

  • sanitation and litter collection
  • weeding invasive species or
  • other tasks that make the green area more pleasant.

More demanding maintenance work may also be considered, if the volunteers are interested.

No compensation is paid for voluntary activities. You may borrow tools from the city or receive assistance with the removal of trash and the processing of plant waste, provided that this is agreed upon in advance.

The objective of voluntary work events and park pal activities is to increase interaction between residents and the city to find common views on environmental management. Maintenance agreement areas remain in normal recreational and outdoor use for all residents.
