Applying to become a private family daycare provider

Private family daycare in Hämeenlinna is arranged with private care allowance and a municipal supplement for private care allowance. A family daycare provider operates as an independent practitioner or entrepreneur, and the care relationship is established between the family and the provider. The City of Hämeenlinna guides, advises, and supervises private family daycare providers in accordance with the Early Childhood Education and Care Act.

The qualification requirement for family daycare provider duties is a vocational qualification suitable for the role or other relevant education in the field (Early Childhood Education and Care Act 540/2018, Section 29). Other suitable education may include, for example, practical nurse training or a children’s instructor qualification.

The qualification must be completed before commencing work. Exceptionally, a family daycare provider may also be temporarily approved while the qualification is in progress, provided that the plan and schedule for completing the qualification are clear.

The provider must order a criminal record extract (less than 6 months old) and present it to the municipal supervisor of private early childhood education and care before commencing work.
