Notifications and permits required by the Health Protection Act
A written notification must be submitted to the municipal health protection authority at least 30 days before starting operations for activities, facilities, or premises that affect large numbers of people or special groups, such as children or the elderly, as well as activities with specific hygienic requirements. If your operations are located in the Hämeenlinna or Hattula area, please notify Hämeenlinna Health Protection.
Activities affecting the living environment must be planned and organized to maintain and promote the health of the population and individuals. The primary goal is to prevent potential health hazards arising from these activities.
Which premises require a notification?
According to the Health Protection Act, you must submit a notification for the commissioning, operational changes, change of operator, or closure of premises such as:
Daycare centers, children’s homes, children’s club facilities, or youth facilities
If your operations involve food handling, you can also submit a food premises notification via Ilppa.
Wait for the notification to be processed
We will contact you if further information is required. The processing time for the notification is approximately 30 days.
We will send you a certificate once your notification has been processed.
Once your notification has been processed, your establishment’s information will become visible in Ilppa.
Implement self-monitoring
As an operator of a site subject to the Health Protection Act, you have a duty of self-monitoring. Self-monitoring means understanding your own operations and their risks, and managing those risks. Self-monitoring under the Health Protection Act focuses on risks that cause health hazards and their monitoring. Self-monitoring applies to all operators subject to health protection supervision, from educational institutions to individual beauty salon entrepreneurs.
Operations must be conducted in a way that prevents the occurrence of health hazards as far as possible.
Supervision of operations
Operations are supervised in accordance with the environmental health supervision plan. A Health Inspector will contact you to arrange an inspection time.
Inspections are invoiced according to the environmental health service fee schedule.
Notifications of changes and closures
If you cease operations or if significant changes occur in your activities, notify the supervisory authority via the Ilppa service.
Please note that a change of operator must be reported by the new operator.
Fees
The processing of notifications and applications under the Health Protection Act, as well as the supervision of operations, are subject to fees. The amount of the fee is determined by the environmental health service fee schedule. In addition, sites are invoiced an annual basic fee in accordance with the Health Protection Act.
