The objective of the City of Hämeenlinna tourism implementation programme is to strengthen the position of Hämeenlinna as an attractive city for tourism and events. The focus of the programme is on building the foundations for tourism development and implementing operations across the entire city group.
The City of Hämeenlinna and Linnan Kehitys Oy have implemented the programme in cooperation with local companies, regional operators, and national actors. The aim of this work is to increase the attractiveness of the region, grow tourism income, and promote sustainable and year-round tourism that benefits both the business community and local residents.
A new ‘Events and Tourism Hämeenlinna’ programme is currently under preparation for the years 2027–2030. Linnan Kehitys Oy and the City of Hämeenlinna vitality and employment services are responsible for its drafting. The programme has been prepared in close cooperation with various city operators and companies within the tourism sector. The framework for the new programme is provided by the new city strategy of the City of Hämeenlinna.
The goal is to build Hämeenlinna into a well-known tourism and event city, where the city creates strong conditions for tourism growth and event organization, and commits the entire city organization to their long-term development.
The Roadmap for Events and Tourism was completed in 2021 to guide the development work of the city’s events and tourism. The roadmap was integrated into the city strategy, through which it became ‘Events and Tourism Hämeenlinna’.
The Roadmap for Events and Tourism presents objectives and measures to strengthen business operations in the event and tourism sectors, improve operating conditions, remove obstacles, and enrich the offering. The goal is to grow operations within the event and tourism sectors and strengthen the vitality impacts of tourism.
As one of the measures, a cross-administrative cooperation group was established to process and resolve broad-based issues related to the sector. The group may invite and hear various experts and stakeholders in its meetings. The Director of Economic Development serves as the chairperson, and a working committee prepares matters for the group.
