A Venue in an Old Byre
Meetings
Iittala is known as a village of craftsmanship, design, and art, attracting over 100,000 domestic and international visitors annually. There is enough to see and experience in Iittala for at least a day trip. Here is our suggestion for a day’s itinerary!
Start by heading to the Iittala Glass Factory, founded in 1881, which remains a vital part of both the history and future of Finnish design. The glass factory’s viewing gallery offers a unique opportunity to observe how skilled blowers create internationally renowned design classics, such as Aalto vases and Oiva Toikka’s birds, from molten glass.
Next, stop by Iittala Lasimäki and make discoveries in the area’s charming small boutiques and the Iittala Store, where you can find all Iittala, Arabia, Fiskars, and Hackman products under one roof.
The journey continues towards the old wooden school of Iittala and the Center of Naive Art, whose summer and winter exhibitions bring a smile to your face and allow joy to carry you forward with light steps.
Located in a beautiful rural setting, Iittala’s Maalaiskirppis ja Kahvitupa (Country Flea Market and Coffee House) is a flea market enthusiast’s dream: several different buildings full of neatly arranged finds! Delicious pastries can be found at the Coffee House. The country flea market is open on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer season.
Explore the community-created Iittala Puuttala arboretum, where every tree has its own story. This green oasis was created through the cooperation of local residents, associations, and businesses, and offers the opportunity to walk, enjoy, and learn about trees in the heart of the village.
Just a stone’s throw away, on the shore of Lake Äimäjärvi, stands the Hukarinlahti birdwatching tower, offering views of the Häme lake landscape. From the six-metre tower, you can observe the area’s rich birdlife: alongside familiar waterfowl, you may spot a western marsh harrier, an osprey, a pair of cranes, or a great bittern. Roe deer and European hares moving in the shoreline bushes add their own touch to the nature experience.
Pastry chef Jenni’s delightful Kaffeli & Köökki takes care of the hungry with salad and soup lunches as well as skillful, melt-in-the-mouth treats.
Located along the Helsinki–Tampere motorway, Iittala is easy to reach: 15 minutes from Hämeenlinna, 30 minutes from Tampere, and just over an hour from Helsinki. You can also reach Iittala by train, as the village is crowned by its own train stop – Finland’s first themed railway station, the Iittala Art Station – which is an attraction in itself.

In Iittala, you can stay, for example, at the Könnölä Farm Tourism, an old family estate that has been held by the same family since the 1700s. The idyllic farm is located in a beautiful heritage landscape amidst many ponds and forested ridges.
