Disclosures of interests by Elected Representatives

Certain municipal Elected Representatives and office holders must publicly disclose any interests that may be relevant to their duties. The disclosure obligation is based on Section 84 of the Municipalities Act.

The disclosure of interests must be submitted within two months of the person’s election to their position or appointment to their role. A register of interests is formed from the disclosures.

The disclosure of interests promotes openness and transparency in municipal decision-making. Disclosures are submitted to the Audit Committee, which monitors compliance with the disclosure obligation, brings the disclosures to the attention of the Council, and maintains the register of interests published on the administrative publishing platform.

People who must submit disclosures include:

  • Members and deputy members of the City Board and its Sections
  • Chair and Vice Chairs of the Council
  • Chairs and Vice Chairs of Committees and other bodies
  • Members and deputy members of the body handling tasks under the Land Use and Building Act (Urban Environment Committee)
  • Leading office holders (presenting officials of the City Board and Committees)

The liable person is responsible for submitting their disclosure of interests and for the accuracy of the information. They must report any changes in their interests immediately.

The Disclosure Service application is used to process disclosures of interests. A request to review and update their interest information at least once a year is sent to the liable people. The register of interests is updated as the information is reviewed and approved.
