School PT for lower secondary school pupils

The School PT programme (the schools’ own low-threshold personal trainer) is a free physical activity counselling service offered by the City of Hämeenlinna for young people of lower secondary school age.

With the school PT, young people can explore physical activity opportunities in their local area, participate in small group or individual school PT sessions, and receive encouragement for self-initiated physical activity. Additionally, the school PT assists in increasing physical activity during breaks and lessons.

The aim is to increase physical activity among young people who are currently less active, help them discover new hobbies and friends, boost their energy for school days and daily life, and enhance their knowledge of nutrition, physical activity, and sleep.

The School PT programme is intended for young people of lower secondary school age (grades 7-9) who need support in increasing their physical activity. Young people requiring support are referred to the school PT programme based on, for example, Move! measurement results.

The first meeting with the school PT involves getting acquainted and assessing the young person’s situation, needs, and wishes. 1-5 individual meetings can be held every 1-2 weeks, or small group meetings for 2-5 students. The meetings are tailored to each young person’s needs and wishes.

With the instructor, young people can explore the physical activity offerings in their local area, participate in small group or individual school PT sessions, and receive encouragement for self-initiated physical activity. Young people can gain tools to improve their well-being and coping skills, and receive peer support from other young people.
