Registration for students starting the 7th grade of basic education in August 2026 has closed. Registration for those starting lower secondary school in August 2027 will open in late winter 2026-2027.
Registration takes place via Wilma, and registration instructions are published annually on the Wilma homepage https://hameenlinna.inschool.fi.
In connection with registration, the guardian logged into Wilma must verify the following information:
pupil’s name and contact information
information on guardians and next of kin
other information related to the pupil’s schooling
If you have moved to Hämeenlinna or within Hämeenlinna before the start of the school year on 1 August 2026:
Decisions on final school places have been published in Wilma or delivered by letter starting from 13 March 2026. Decisions for those who applied for a school place due to a move are first made to the address valid in the population data, and the school place is re-assigned based on the application once the move to the new address has been updated in the population information system.
In connection with the pupil placement for the seventh grade, the guardian has the opportunity to express a wish for the pupil’s local school at the start of the seventh grade. Every wish is taken into account, but based on the guardian’s wish, a local school can only be assigned in cases where the requested school has space in the groups.
Applying for a secondary school place
If the wish expressed by the guardian could not be fulfilled when assigning the local school, the guardian may apply for a secondary school place for the pupil transitioning to the 7th grade. Applying for a secondary school place is possible once a local school has been assigned to all pupils in the age group. A secondary application can only be made on paper, as it requires the signatures of both guardians. A secondary application for the 7th grade can be made between 14 and 31 March 2026.
A transport benefit is not granted for a secondary school. If several equal secondary school place applications are pending at the same time, open school places are filled by drawing lots.
