In Hämeenlinna’s early childhood and pre-primary education, we grow together – meeting, wondering, and understanding.
In early childhood and pre-primary education, every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop in a safe, encouraging, and caring environment. Our activities emphasise working together, learning through play, and valuing the uniqueness of each child.
The daily life of early childhood and pre-primary education is built upon secure relationships, diverse activities, and routines that support well-being. We work in close cooperation with guardians to support the child’s well-being, growth, and learning.
The implementation of early childhood and pre-primary education is guided by Hämeenlinna’s early childhood education plan and the City of Hämeenlinna’s pre-primary education curriculum. These plans have been developed in cooperation with staff, children, and guardians.

Safe daily life supporting well-being
In the daily life of early childhood and pre-primary education, we promote children’s physical, psychological, and social well-being. We build safe, caring, and communal growth environments where every child can thrive, develop, and learn.
During the day, we also ensure children have rest, quiet time, and recovery. We offer children nutritious and varied food, and mealtimes are important moments for interaction and learning. Children explore food using all their senses, discussing, investigating, and tasting together, strengthening each child’s positive relationship with food.
Daily life encouraging play, learning, and participation
In early childhood and pre-primary education, the child is seen as an active, capable, and curious learner. Joint play, movement, creative activities, and exploration are daily occurrences. Learning happens by wondering, investigating, experimenting, and discussing together.
Every child has the right to be heard, participate, and influence the daily life of their group. In planning and implementing activities, children’s thoughts, experiences, and interests are taken into account, and daily life is built together with adults and children. Experiences of participation strengthen a child’s self-esteem, sense of belonging to a community, and motivation to learn.
Community and growing together
The entire community supports the child’s growth and learning. We develop our operational culture together with children, staff, and guardians. Open interaction, trust, and cooperation form the foundation for a thriving community. When children, guardians, and staff work together, a safe and encouraging environment is created where everyone can grow, learn, and succeed.
We invite guardians to participate in activities through discussions, events, visits, and joint occasions, among others. Daycare centres also have parents’ associations.
