Pre-primary pupil welfare

A communal multi-professional pupil welfare team operates and meets regularly in all pre-primary education units in the City of Hämeenlinna. The aim of pupil welfare is to support the pre-primary pupil’s learning, development, and holistic health, as well as their participation. The goal is for every child to feel good and safe in the learning environment – and to ensure that help is available early if there are any concerns.

If guardians are concerned about a pre-primary aged child’s learning, behaviour, friendships, bullying, or any other matter related to well-being, they should contact the child’s pre-primary group teacher. Guardians may also contact pupil welfare social workers or psychologists directly.

Pupil welfare school nurses and doctors, school social workers, and school psychologists are employees of Oma Häme.

  • Communal pupil welfare. All adults working in pre-primary education are responsible for ensuring that the environment is safe and that the operating culture supports children’s health and well-being. To achieve these goals, it is important that pupils, guardians, and school staff participate in regular cooperation. The day care centre director and the communal pupil welfare team are responsible for creating the unit-specific pupil welfare plan.
  • Individual pupil welfare. Individual pupil welfare refers to work carried out to support the well-being and learning of an individual child. Individual pupil welfare work is confidential and is implemented in cooperation with the child, guardians, teacher, and pupil welfare specialists. The child’s views are taken into account during the process.
