Family daycare

Early childhood education and care provided in home-based family daycare offers children a safe, homely, and community-oriented environment where they grow, play, and learn together. A group has a maximum of four children. Activities are planned taking into account children’s interests, strengths, and needs. The family daycare provider works in their own home, making each home-based daycare setting unique.

Family day care is professional and goal-oriented educational work, based on presence and child-respecting interaction. Family daycare supports positive childhood experiences and ensures development, growth, and learning. It emphasises a flexible child-centred approach, a consistent and safe caregiver, and diverse opportunities to structure days around children’s ideas and interests. The city of Hämeenlinna and its surrounding towns provide environments that enable experiences in culture, physical activity, and nature, which are also extensively utilised in family daycare.

Caregivers’ working hours are between 6 AM and 6 PM on weekdays. Children’s individual care times are flexibly agreed upon according to families’ needs. During the family daycare provider’s holidays, time off, and sudden absences, children’s early childhood education and care is arranged in a pre-agreed substitute care place within a daycare group, which families can visit in advance.

To apply for a municipal family daycare place, submit an electronic application and select family daycare as the form of activity. A daycare centre should be chosen as the second option. In the additional field, you can specify your preferred area.

Hämeenlinna also has municipally approved private family daycare providers, whose early childhood education and care services are funded through private daycare support and the municipal supplement. You can read more about private daycare support and the municipal supplement here:
