Cooperation with guardians plays an important role in early childhood education and pre-primary education. The aim of this cooperation is a shared commitment between guardians and staff to promote the safe growth, development, and learning of children.
Cooperation and communication with guardians
Daily discussion plays a central role in building a relationship of trust. Through open, encouraging, and positive interaction, we create a foundation for ensuring the child’s well-being and learning.
To ensure smooth and open communication, Hämeenlinna’s early childhood and pre-primary education services use the Päikky electronic communication and transaction system. In Päikky, you can book care hours, send messages, bulletins, surveys, and photos, and view documents related to the child.
Discussions on the child’s early childhood education and pre-primary education plans
An early childhood education or pre-primary education plan is created for every child in cooperation with the educational staff and guardians. The plans are evaluated in joint discussions with guardians at least once per operating year. The plans record the goals for supporting and promoting the child’s learning, growth, and development.
Cooperation is carried out with guardians during transition phases, for example, when a child moves to another group, day care centre, pre-primary education, or comprehensive school. During transition phases, a meeting is arranged with the guardian if necessary.
Participation of guardians in the evaluation and development of early childhood education
In addition to daily contact, the staff of the child group communicates and informs guardians about the group’s activities regularly.
Guardians can participate in the evaluation and development of early childhood education during discussions regarding the child’s early childhood education plan or pre-primary learning plan, at parents’ evenings, and at other events.
We ask for guardians’ experiences and thoughts on early childhood and pre-primary education activities annually through a client survey. The responses to the client survey are processed and utilised in the evaluation and development of early childhood education.
Providing feedback on our operations is important. If your matter concerns the activities of the child group or the child’s early childhood education, you can contact the group staff or the daycare centre manager. You can also provide feedback through the City of Hämeenlinna’s feedback service.
Varda – national database for early childhood education
Varda is a register maintained by the Finnish National Agency for Education, to which data is transferred from the Päikky early childhood education system. Varda stores information on early childhood education locations as well as personal data on children in early childhood education, their guardians, and early childhood education staff. In addition, Varda stores information on family size, early childhood education client fees, and the extent to which the child uses early childhood education services.
The data stored in Varda is used in early childhood education research, development, decision-making support, and in the tasks and statistics of authorities. The municipality or private operator is responsible for ensuring that the data in Varda is correct. The storage of data in Varda is stipulated in the Early Childhood Education Act (540/2018). For more information regarding Varda, you can contact: paikky@hameenlinna.fi.
