Notifications for outdoor sales and mobile food operations

Mobile food establishments must be registered with food supervision, and the local food control authority must be notified of operations at events. When operating in or arriving at the Hämeenlinna and Hattula area, submit a notification to Hämeenlinna food supervision.

Mobile food establishments are movable sales or service points, or food preparation or handling facilities. Examples of mobile food establishments include various food trucks, tent canopies, and mobile kiosks. The location of a mobile food establishment may vary daily or remain the same for an entire summer season, for example.

Register your mobile food establishment with food supervision

When you set up a mobile food establishment in the Hämeenlinna or Hattula area, you must submit a notification or an application for approval of the food establishment to Hämeenlinna food supervision . You can submit the notification electronically via the Ilppa service.

The processing of a initiation notification and essential changes to operations costs €228.

Note! If you sell products from your own primary production through outdoor sales, the sales are considered part of primary production activities. The sales are reported in connection with the primary production notification, and a separate food establishment notification is not required.

Notifying the local authority of arrival

The food control authority of the municipality where mobile food operations will take place must be notified of the activities occurring in a mobile food establishment.

Notify Hämeenlinna food supervision of your mobile food operations in the Hämeenlinna and Hattula area no later than four business days before starting operations.

You can send notification using the electronic e-form or, for example, via a free-form email, by telephone, or by letter. Notification is free of charge.

If you email the notification by email, please include the following information in your message:

  • operator’s contact details and Business ID
  • identification details of the mobile food establishment, such as the vehicle registration number
  • description of the operations, the scope of activities, and the products
  • date and duration of the operations.

The same notification obligations apply to both Finnish and international food sector operators.

In outdoor sales and mobile food operations, food safety and good hygienic quality must be ensured. The food sector operator, i.e., the seller or provider of the product, is responsible for this.

Truthful and sufficient information must be provided about the food, for example, in the labeling of packaged products.
