Notifications concerning waste recovery and collection
Notification of small-scale waste recovery in earthworks
The environmental protection regulations of the City of Hämeenlinna and the Municipality of Hattula permit small-scale, one-off, environmentally harmless use of crushed concrete and brick in earthworks. Crushed concrete and brick may be used in quantities of less than 500 tonnes to replace virgin natural materials. The recovery of waste in earthworks must be planned and small-scale and must not be professional or industrial-scale. Sites may include, for example, private household driveways and parking areas.
The possibility of recovery is always considered on a case-by-case basis. A monitoring notification must be made in advance to Hämeenlinna City Environmental Protection regarding recovery taking place in the City of Hämeenlinna and the Municipality of Hattula.
How to proceed
Submit your notification using the electronic form below at least 30 days before commencing the activity. Attach the required appendices to the notification.
The above notification requirement does not apply to activities for which notification is made to the Finnish Supervisory Agency (FSA) under the so-called MARA decree (Government Decree on the Recovery of Certain Wastes in Earthworks).
The MARA decree concerns planned industrial-scale or professional recovery of waste in earthworks. The decree does not apply in groundwater areas.
Professional waste collection means the gathering of waste at reception points organized by, for example, municipalities, producer communities, distributors, or other waste management service companies for onward transport to treatment.
Notification of professional waste collection activities must be made for registration in the waste management register to the environmental protection authority of the municipality in which the collection is carried out. A fee in accordance with the tariff is charged for processing the notification.
