Carpet Washing Facilities

The City of Hämeenlinna has a total of ten carpet washing facilities.

All carpet washing facilities are land-based washing facilities, and they vary slightly in terms of equipment and drying areas.

The taps at the carpet washing facilities are opened in spring once the weather warms up, i.e., after the night frosts have ended, and closed in autumn according to the weather conditions.

When the carpet washing facilities are open, the taps are timed to operate every day of the week from 7 AM to 10 PM.

For some carpet washing facilities, the water comes from a lake. Any blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) that may be present in the lake generally does not hinder carpet washing, as algal blooms occur particularly in shallow shoreline water or right on the water’s surface. Water intake, however, takes place from deeper in the lake.

Instructions for users of carpet washing facilities

• Use only environmentally friendly detergents
• Clean the basins after washing
• Keep the area tidy; dispose of rubbish in the waste bin provided at the carpet washing facility
• Be careful with the mangle; if a carpet spins over the mangle rollers, it may get jammed.
• Draining racks are only for initial water drainage; final drying should be done at home
• Only carpet washing is permitted
• The carpet washing facility is a public area, freely available for everyone to use
• Carpet washing facilities are monitored and maintained through regular inspection visits
• The City of Hämeenlinna does not compensate for damages that may result from possible impurities in the wash water, the structure of the washing equipment, or improper use of the mangle
