Urban farming offers the opportunity to grow crops in the heart of the city and make nature part of your daily life
In Hämeenlinna, there are many ways to enjoy urban farming. The city offers allotment gardens and rentable cultivation plots in various locations. These options are suitable for both novice growers and more experienced gardeners.
Cultivation plots
The City of Hämeenlinna has approximately 350 rentable cultivation plots covering a total area of about five hectares across central Hämeenlinna. The Hämeenlinna Region 4H Association is responsible for the rental, maintenance and advisory services for these plots.
The cultivation plots are divided into annual and perennial plots. Annual plots are ploughed in the autumn and harrowed in the spring. Perennial plots are not tilled, allowing you to grow perennial plants as well.
Annual plots are harrowed and marked in the spring once the ground is in a workable condition after the winter. This usually takes place by early May at the latest.
Further information on cultivation plots and rentals can be found on the Hämeenlinna Region 4H Association website
