Public transport in Hämeenlinna

Welcome aboard!

Website for international residents

Bus transport in Hämeenlinna helps you move around the city every day. You can travel by bus, for example, to work, school, health services, or hobbies. If you use the bus frequently, it is recommended to purchase a Waltti travel card.

Purchasing a Waltti card and bus tickets

You can buy your Waltti travel card at Service Point Kastelli or online at the Waltti shop. The card costs 5 euros.

The following can be loaded onto a Waltti card:

  • Season ticket: you can travel without limits during the ticket’s validity period. The validity period can be 30, 90, or 180 days.
  • Value ticket: a specific sum of money is loaded onto the card, which decreases as the card is used. The value does not expire.

You can purchase a single ticket:

  • With cash or contactless payment on the bus. NOTE: only one person’s journey can be paid for with contactless payment. If you purchase a single ticket with cash, please have the exact change ready. The driver may not have a large amount of change available.
  • By telephone using the Waltti mobile application. When boarding the bus, scan the ticket’s QR code using the reader.

KELA school transport subsidy ticket: Tickets with school transport subsidy are intended for upper secondary level students who receive school transport subsidy granted by Kela. Further information is available on the Kela website.

Student ticket: Students receive a student discount on 30-day season tickets. Student discounts are not available for single tickets. A student discount is granted if the studies are full-time, lead to a profession or degree, and the length of the student’s academic year is at least 8 months.

The school transport subsidy ticket and student ticket are loaded onto a Waltti card. You can have the ticket loaded at Service Point Kastelli or load it yourself at the Waltti shop.

Ticket prices

Single, value, and season tickets are divided into two age groups: child and adult.

  • Children aged 0–6 travel free of charge when accompanied by a paying passenger
  • Children aged 7–16 travel with a child ticket
