A resident’s initiative is a way to influence the decision-making and operations of the City of Hämeenlinna.
Through a resident’s initiative, you can bring forward current issues, problems or development needs and propose changes to address them.
You can submit your own initiative, support initiatives submitted by others and follow the processing of initiatives. You can also submit an initiative for a municipal referendum.
You may submit a resident’s initiative if you
reside in Hämeenlinna
belong to an organisation, institution or foundation whose registered domicile is located in Hämeenlinna
own or possess real property located in Hämeenlinna
Persons under 18 years of age may also submit a resident’s initiative.
The initiative must concern a common matter that relates to the municipality’s operations or services and that has significance more broadly rather than only to the initiator.
The city will inform you of the measures taken on the basis of your initiative. The initiative must have significance more broadly rather than only to you personally.
If the initiative is signed by at least two per cent of the eligible voters of Hämeenlinna, the City Council will process the matter within six months.
Submitting a resident’s initiative
You may submit an initiative in a free form. The initiative must include the initiator’s name, as anonymous initiatives are not processed.
You can submit an initiative most easily through the Kuntalaisaloite online service. In the online service, you can also cast your vote for ongoing initiatives.
Alternatively, you may send a resident’s initiative by post or deliver it in person.
Postal address: City of Hämeenlinna Wetterhoffinkatu 2 13100 Hämeenlinna
You may also submit an initiative at Service Point Kastelli at the same address.
Small everyday improvements and practical ideas should be sent through the feedback system. Broader proposals for change and matters requiring political decision-making are resident’s initiative matters.
