School transport

School journeys and school transport

School transport is arranged for a pupil when the journey to the local school is over 5 km. For children in pre-primary education and pupils in grades 1-2, school transport is arranged if the journey is longer than 3 km.

School transport is granted only to and from the pupil’s official address. The length of the school journey is calculated according to the shortest, pedestrian-friendly, and publicly accessible route from the home gate to the school gate.

MunApp application

For pupils travelling by taxi, school transport routes and timetables are displayed in the application called MunApp. The application can be used via a browser or through an app downloaded to a phone. Registration for the application is done with a phone number. Please check that your child’s information is correctly entered in the system.

In MunApp you can:

  • check the morning pick-up time
  • monitor when your child boards and exits the transport
  • cancel transports

In case of problems, please contact: koulukuljetukset@hameenlinna.fi. Remember to include the child’s name and your phone number in the message to speed up processing.

For those travelling by bus, the new season for the old Waltti card is updated automatically. New transport pupils will receive their school travel cards at school on the first day of school.

You can apply for pre-primary school transport if the journey is longer than 3 km. Complete the pre-primary school transport application using the e-form by 30.4.2027. The application form for the upcoming school year will open in March.

Pupils in the first grade will be granted school transport at the time of school placement for years 1-2, if the school journey exceeds 3 km.

School transport is granted for years 3-9 if the journey is over 5 km.

The city may reimburse the guardian for costs incurred from the pupil’s transport. Complete the school transport application in Wilma. Reimbursement is conditional on the pupil being entitled to transport and the municipality not arranging it. Reimbursement is not paid retrospectively.

Costs for using a private car are paid according to Kela’s travel allowance (€0.35/km) or the public transport zone price, whichever is the most economical option for the city.
