Air protection

The goal of air protection is to ensure good air quality for human health and well-being, as well as for the welfare of nature and the preservation of the built environment.

The municipal environmental protection authority supervises and guides air protection.

The most significant sources of air pollutant emissions are traffic, energy production, and industry. Local disturbance can also be caused by small-scale wood burning in residential areas. In addition to local emissions, air quality is affected by pollutants transported from elsewhere. Harmful air emissions include particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide.

Air quality can be improved by reducing emissions that degrade air quality, influencing the spread of air pollutants, and reducing human exposure through various means. Environmental protection regulations include local provisions promoting air protection. The municipality can also influence regional air quality through street maintenance and land-use planning, among other things.
