Parking

In Hämeenlinna, the city is responsible for on-street parking and parking enforcement in public areas, as well as in parking areas and facilities managed by Hämeenlinnan Pysäköinti Oy. You can find the locations and prices of parking areas and facilities on the Hämeenlinnan Pysäköinti Oy website. Information about on-street parking and parking enforcement can be found on this page.

Parking in the inner city center of Hämeenlinna is primarily subject to a fee. Fees apply on weekdays from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Parking is free on Sundays and public holidays.

The parking rate for on-street parking in the city center is 2 euros per hour. Fees and any time limits are always indicated by traffic signs, so please check them carefully before parking.

There are also free time-limited parking spaces in the city center area.

Paying for parking

The most convenient way to pay for parking is through mobile parking services such as EasyPark, Parkman, MOOVY, and eParking. These services do not have a maximum parking time, but they only apply to paid parking spaces. Mobile payment cannot be used in time-limited free spaces.

A mobile payment operator sticker is not required on the car’s windshield. However, always verify in the application that the recipient of the parking fee is the City of Hämeenlinna or Hämeenlinnan Pysäköinti Oy.

You can also pay for parking at ticket machines along the city center streets using either coins or a payment card. On-street parking ticket machines are located at the lower end of the Market Square, at the beginning of Sibeliuksenkatu, and at Kirkkorinne.

Parking areas on the map

Paid parking areas in the city center and near the railway station are marked in green on the map. Time-limited on-street parking is marked in orange and red.

Always check the traffic signs in the area when parking. They indicate whether parking is subject to a fee and how long you are allowed to park. If you park against the direction of travel, please note that traffic signs are placed according to the direction of travel; verify their area of effect before parking.

If the embedded map is not visible, you can view parking areas in the city’s electronic map service.

Time-limited parking

If the maximum parking time is limited by a traffic sign, the parking start time must be clearly displayed. This obligation applies to all motorized vehicles except mopeds and motorcycles, unless otherwise stated on an additional plate.

The parking start time is recorded as the time the vehicle is parked. You may also mark the next full or half hour following the start of parking, whichever is earlier. Marking the start time is mandatory, even if the time limit is only in effect for part of the parking duration.

If you park entirely during a time when the obligation to report the start time is not in effect, you do not need to mark the start time. The reported start time must not be changed while the time limit is in effect.

Only one parking start time may be displayed inside the car’s windshield during parking. You can indicate the time using, for example, a traditional parking disc, an electronic parking disc, or by writing the time on a piece of paper. The most important thing is that the start time is clearly visible.

Please note that Hämeenlinna does not use a remote-readable electronic parking disc service or system.

Disabled parking permit

If a vehicle has a disabled parking permit, it may be parked despite a prohibition or restriction indicated by a traffic sign:

  • in a paid parking space without payment
  • in an area where parking is prohibited by traffic signs C38 (No Parking) and C39 (No Parking Zone);
  • for a period longer than the restriction in an area where the maximum parking time is limited.

A vehicle with a disabled parking permit must not be parked in an area or space designated by a traffic sign for the parking of specific vehicles only (e.g., buses).
