Event venues

Kantola Event Park is well-suited as a venue for events of various sizes and types throughout the year – including concerts, festivals, exhibitions, trade fairs, and sporting events. Outside of event periods, the park serves as a public recreational area open to everyone and is part of the Hämeenlinna National Urban Park.

The Event Park consists primarily of level lawn areas. Additionally, the area features three larger crushed stone sections and service roads that divide the lawn. No permanent structures have been built in the park; instead, everything is customizable on an event-by-event basis. The park’s design takes into account all modern infrastructure requirements, and the park features electricity, water, and sewage connections, as well as a data network for the use of event organizers.

Surface Area

The total surface area of the Event Park is 9.5 hectares. However, the Event Park can be easily partitioned into areas of different sizes depending on the nature of the event and space requirements. Capacity

The maximum capacity of the Event Park approved by the authorities is 55,000 people.

Arrival and Access Routes

The park is located on the shore of Lake Vanajavesi in the Kantola district, within walking distance of the Hämeenlinna city center. The distance to the park is 2.5 km from the Hämeenlinna Market Square, 1.8 km from the railway station, and 2 km from the bus station.

Kantola Event Park is located in the immediate vicinity of the Helsinki–Tampere Highway E12 / 3 and Turku Highway 10.

Parking

Depending on the nature of the event and space requirements, parts of the Kantola Event Park can be utilized as an event parking area.

If the entire Event Park is required for an event, the parking garages and lots in the Hämeenlinna city center serve visitors. Additionally, there are operators in the Kantola area who can lease land for parking use as needed.

Event Maintenance Traffic

Heavy traffic related to the technical production of the event can be directed via the route Helsinki–Tampere Highway E12 / 3 – Turku Highway 10 – Vanajantie – Puusepänkatu – Luukkaankatu – Kantolankatu.

Electrical Points

The area features four electrical cabinets connected to the main grid, located in different parts of the park, which are available for event producers. The event organizer is responsible for costs arising from electricity use according to consumption. Electrical cables must be installed as surface cabling and must be covered and protected appropriately.

Water and Sewage

The Event Park has three water points located in different parts of the park, which are connected to the City of Hämeenlinna’s water system; the water is potable as is. The area also has a sewage network to which it is possible to connect, for example, a container. Connections to both the water and sewage networks must be made in accordance with official requirements and safety regulations. Water hoses must be installed as surface cabling and must be covered and protected appropriately.

Lighting

Park lighting runs around the perimeter of the area. Additionally, the largest crushed stone area has three larger light poles that can be utilized during the setup and dismantling phases of the event.

Load-Bearing Capacities

The weight of structures used in the event must always be distributed appropriately over a wider area, for example by using plywood sheets, whenever there is a risk of the structure or part of it sinking into the ground. The location of sewers and other underground structures must also be determined before event construction begins. The load-bearing capacity of the area and the necessary protection must also be taken into account during the construction and dismantling phases when moving structures and their components.

Anchoring of Tents and Structures

All types of excavation are strictly and without exception prohibited within the park area. The use and ground-fastening of any kind of anchor wedges, pins, or similar items is also prohibited in all cases. The anchoring of all event-related tents, gates, stages, and other similar structures must be performed using weights safely and appropriately. The park is an open area located by a body of water; therefore, wind conditions must be sufficiently taken into account when planning the event and its required structures.

Linnanpuisto is a large and open zone surrounding the medieval Häme Castle, situated on the shore of Lake Vanajavesi. The cobblestoned Kustaa III:n katu street runs through the park area. The area also includes the small Eino Leino Park north of Niittykatu. Linnanpuisto is part of the Hämeenlinna National Urban Park. The imposing castle provides a festive backdrop for events held in Linnanpuisto. During the summer, the park features an event stage where concerts can be organized. The park also hosts various mass events and festivals.

Organizing an event in Linnanpuisto requires applying for a permit well in advance. The event organizer is responsible for obtaining the necessary permits and notifications, as well as for event safety, waste management, traffic arrangements, and other logistics in a timely manner. A fee is charged for leasing the park for an event and for permit processing in accordance with the currently confirmed tariff.

Location

The park is located on the shore of Lake Vanajavesi next to the Hämeenlinna city center on the castle peninsula. The distance to the park is 600 m from the Hämeenlinna Market Square, 1.5 km from the railway station, and 800 m from the bus station. Linnanpuisto is easily accessible from the Hämeenlinna interchange of the Helsinki–Tampere Highway E12 / 3.

Ahvenisto Race Circuit is Finland’s most legendary and oldest active motorsport arena. The track hosts various events ranging from motorsport competitions to exhibitions and family events. The area is capable of handling almost any occasion requiring the management of large crowds or vehicle volumes. In winter, popular cross-country skiing tracks run along the race circuit.

Ahvenisto Race Circuit is located next to the Ahvenisto ridge along Poltinahontie. The race circuit is approximately 2 kilometers from the Tiiriö interchange of the Helsinki–Tampere Highway E12 / 3.

Parking and Public Transport

Ahvenisto Race Circuit has a parking lot. If the circuit’s parking lot is full, on-street parking is available nearby. The gravel parking lots at Pulleri field and Rinkelinmäki are within walking distance of the Race Circuit. The nearest bus stops are located on Parolantie and Poltinahontie, approximately 700 meters from the area.

Noise Limits

On normal days, vehicles with a noise level below 95 dB are permitted. The measurement methods are as follows:

• For cars: 4,500 rpm, from a distance of half a meter, at a 45º angle from the exhaust outlet.
• For motorcycles: 1–3 cylinders 4,500 rpm, 4 cylinders under 750 cc 5,500 rpm, and over 750 cc 5,000 rpm at 45º from the exhaust outlet.

Ahvenisto Race Circuit has a specific number of so-called noise days, during which it is possible to use a limit of 110 dB / 4,500 rpm.

A 100-seat cafe/restaurant is located at the track paddock at the end of the paddock building. Outdoor sales points can also be set up for events.

The operations of the Ahvenisto Race Circuit are managed by Ahvenisto Race Circuit Oy.

The Evo camping area is located 40 km from the Hämeenlinna city center. The area, approximately 100 hectares in size, features permanent structures and a magnificent setting for organizing both large and small camps and various events. The maximum capacity of the area is 17,000 people, and it can be leased year-round.

The Evo camping area has an extensive road network as well as water and sewage networks. The electricity and internet networks built for large-scale camps guarantee functional and modern conditions for camps and events.

The Evo Camping Area is located between Lake Pitkänniemenjärvi and Lake Ylinen Rautjärvi. The terrain in the area is varied and consists of easily traversable, sparse pine forest. A former 0.5 km long airfield divides the camping area in two.

Metsähallitus and the Guides and Scouts of Finland have jointly designed and implemented the current Evo camping area.

Loimua Areena is a modern multi-purpose sports hall in the middle of the Hämeenlinna sports park. The complex is complemented by the Säästöpankki-areena located in the area, as well as grass and sand-surfaced outdoor field areas.

Pohjantähti Areena is a modern and versatile space for various events. In addition to ice hockey league matches, the arena is used annually for organizing various concerts, trade fairs, and celebrations. The main users of the arena, besides HPK’s representative ice hockey and junior activities, include figure skaters and recreational ice hockey groups. Pohjantähti Areena can accommodate approximately 5,360 spectators. Additional space is available if needed from the adjacent Metritiski-Areena, which can be accessed from the inside thanks to the shared lobby of the halls. The Hakio Ice Sports Center is also located in the same area.

Total capacity 5,360, of which 3,660 are seats and 1,700 are standing places, 23 boxes, 5 meeting rooms, and 7 locker rooms. Metritiski-Areena has a 700-seat grandstand and 6 locker rooms.

Pohjantähti Areena is located in Rinkelinmäki near the Ahvenisto outdoor recreation area at Poltinahontie 11. The distance from the Hämeenlinna city center is 2.5 km.

Parking and Public Transport

There is a paved parking lot next to Pohjantähti Areena and a large gravel field next to Metritiski-Areena. Additionally, there is other parking space and on-street parking in the surrounding areas. There is a bus stop next to Pohjantähti Areena.

Accessibility

The access route to the entrance is signposted, level, sufficiently wide, and illuminated. The entrance is clearly distinguishable and illuminated. The entrance doors are clearly distinguishable. There is sufficient free space outside the door for movement, for example with a wheelchair. The door opens automatically. There are thresholds higher than 2 cm at the entrance.

There is an accessible toilet in the main lobby. Additionally, an accessible toilet is located on the upper corridor in connection with the disabled spectator area. The sports facilities are on the entrance floor. The spectator and restaurant facilities are partially on the second floor. If necessary, it is possible to move between floors by elevator with the assistance of staff. The facility has signage for the various spaces.

The locker rooms for the sports facility are located on the same floor as the entrance. The facility does not have a separate accessible locker room; the men’s/women’s locker rooms must be used. The locker room door is heavy or otherwise difficult to open. There is sufficient space in the locker room to operate with a wheelchair and an assistant. Good lighting and contrast differences facilitate the perception of the space. There are no lockers in the locker room. There is no accessible toilet in connection with the locker room. The washing area is connected to the men’s/women’s locker room. The washing area door opens easily by hand.

The rink can be accessed without barriers through the maintenance gate. The edges of the rink are distinguishable by means of darkness contrast.

Founded in the late 13th century, the red-brick Häme Castle provides a prestigious setting for various events and occasions. Rising on the Linnanniemi peninsula right next to the city center, the castle contains various halls and spaces, the most magnificent of which is the King’s Hall on the second floor. Additional space is provided by the courtyard areas, which offer stunning views of Lake Vanajavesi, as well as the castle’s rampart courtyards. For larger events, the surrounding Linnanpuisto Park can also be utilized. Protected by the walls next to the castle, the prison, which currently operates as a museum, can also be leased as an event space.
