Land and Construction Surveys

The City of Hämeenlinna provides land and construction surveys within the city’s register area. These surveys include, for example, boundary markings for fence construction or marking the corners of a building on the ground.

You can order the following surveying services using the electronic form:

You can order the marking of a building’s location and the determination of its height using the electronic form. Building site marking can be ordered once a building permit has been granted.

Another ordering option is the builder’s surveying package, which includes the marking of the building’s location and height, as well as an additional service for preliminary marking of the building. Preliminary marking with stakes for groundwork and precise locations with rebar or piles for foundations.

You can order a site inspection within the city’s register area.

You can order the marking of plot boundaries if you are planning, for example, to build a fence. Boundary marking is only possible within the city’s register area.

Other areas must be ordered from the National Land Survey of Finland.

We also carry out other surveying work on an hourly basis. Please specify your surveying needs in the additional information field of the form.

Building Site Marking and Site Inspection

The surveys required by the building permit are carried out in two phases. Proceed as follows:

You can order building site marking once you have received a building permit from the building control department.

Once you have ordered building site marking, the corners of the building will be marked and the height datum provided during the survey.

Once the building’s foundation is complete, order a site inspection for the building.

If the site inspection is only carried out after the building is finished, an increased fee may be charged.

Do not continue construction until the building’s location and height have been approved.

Please note: a building cannot be approved as complete or taken into use if the marking or site inspection is missing.

Coordinate and Height Systems

In 2012, the City of Hämeenlinna adopted new national systems:

  • Planar Coordinate System EUREF-FIN / ETRS-GK25
  • Height System N2000

These are used in all maps and surveys.

Planar coordinates appear different in the new systems compared to the old ones. Height values change only slightly, by a maximum of approximately 0.5 metres. Based solely on the height reading, it is not possible to determine which system has been used. Therefore, you must verify the height system used in plans and on site.

Height System Conversions

When converting old survey data to the new N2000 height system, add the following correction according to the area:

  • Kanta-Hämeenlinna (NHml): add 0.456 m
  • Lammi (N43): add 0.361 m
  • Iittala (N60): add 0.282 m
  • Renko (N60): add 0.273 m
  • Hauho village (N60): add 0.273 m
  • Hauho South (N60): add 0.271 m
  • Hauho Alvettula (N60): add 0.275 m
  • Tuulos (N60): add 0.266 m
