Permits for public areas

Working on streets, in parks, and in other public areas always requires a permit issued by the city. The placement of structures and systems in public areas is done on the basis of a placement agreement.

Street permit

A street permit is required when the temporary use of a public area restricts the normal use of the area or causes other exceptional arrangements.

A street permit grants a decision on the use of the work area and allows temporary arrangements to be made. Street permit fees are based on the supervision of the work and the review of the notification as referred to in Section 14b of the Streets Act.

A street permit is applied for in the electronic service.

Placement agreement

Systems and equipment to be placed in public areas, such as electrical or telecommunications cables, require a placement agreement for the said equipment. In addition to the placement agreement, a street permit is also required when work begins. Cables, equipment, and structures without a placement agreement or in violation of the agreement terms may be removed at the owner’s expense. A placement agreement is applied for in the electronic service.

Temporary rental of public areas

The use of public areas for other temporary activities is possible by renting. If the activity does not cause significant changes to traffic arrangements, a street permit is not required. Areas can also be rented, for example, for placing a swap container, storage, window washing, operating a terrace, or other similar purposes. Rental is applied for in the electronic service.
