Land lease and transfer of leasehold

The City of Hämeenlinna leases out land it owns and manages related agreements. For matters concerning leasing, whether it’s the renewal or transfer of an agreement, you can always contact the land management department.

The City will contact the lessee regarding the expiry of the land lease agreement during the final year of the lease, well in advance of the lease term ending.

Apply for the renewal of a land lease agreement using the electronic form.

Once we have received your application for the renewal of a land lease agreement, we will make an official decision on the renewal. After this decision has become legally valid, a new lease agreement can be drawn up.

Apply to the National Land Survey of Finland for an extension of the leasehold if you have entered into a new lease agreement to be registered with an institutional identifier.

If you have purchased a building located on leased land owned by the City, you must notify the City of Hämeenlinna of the transfer within one month of the transaction using the electronic form. A copy of the deed of sale or other transfer document must be attached to the notification. The party to whom the leasehold has been transferred is responsible for the notification. It is advisable to agree in the deed of sale, among other things, from which date the transferee is responsible for the land lease.

The seller must hand over the original lease agreement to the buyer at the time of sale. Upon transfer of the leasehold, the existing land lease agreement and its terms remain in force and become binding on the transferee.

Furthermore, the transferee is obliged to apply for the transfer of the leasehold from the National Land Survey of Finland.

If the original lease agreement has been lost, you will need a certified copy for purposes such as property sales, applying for the registration of a leasehold or its transfer, or for mortgages.

Please notify us of any changes to invoicing addresses related to land lease billing.

The City generally invoices land leases at the turn of May and June. Lessees may apply for an interest-bearing extension of the payment period until the due date. The City annually announces current guidelines for applying for payment extensions.

Temporary site leases include, for example, parking or storage areas required for construction projects, or other leases needed for short-term use.

You can apply for or enquire about the services via the electronic service form.
