Maaherranpuisto and Aleksis Kivi Park
Located on the shore of Lake Vanajavesi, Maaherranpuisto and Aleksis Kiven puisto carry on the legacy of the former Seurahuone park as popular outdoor recreation areas.
The Hämeenlinna Seurahuone was built in 1839. Designed in the Empire style, the Seurahuone was one of the largest and most magnificent function venues in 19th-century Finland, frequently hosting balls. The Seurahuone and its surrounding park were popular leisure destinations in the Hämeenlinna of that era.
The Seurahuone was destroyed by fire in 1894, but part of its park was saved. Aleksis Kiven puisto and Maaherranpuisto are partially situated on the site of the former Seurahuone park.
The parks remain popular outdoor destinations today, thanks to the beautiful lake views they offer. The Maaherranpuisto side features a children’s playground, while Aleksis Kiven puisto offers city-owned mooring berths for boaters to rent.
Location of the parks
Maaherranpuisto is located at the corner of Lukiokatu and Rauhankatu, and Aleksis Kiven puisto is at the corner of Koulukatu and Linnankatu, on the shore of Lake Vanajavesi.
